New York City Eric Adam’s trip to the southern border was suddenly canceled over the weekend after he admitted it was not safe enough.
Mayoral spokeswoman Amaris Cockfield said in a statement Saturday:
“As Lent draws to a close, our team was excited to stand with faith and humanitarian leaders who have dedicated their lives to serving the most needy among us, and we were eager to discuss our work in New York City and explore new ways to collaborate with leaders in cities across the country.”
“But due to safety concerns at one of the cities we were going to visit in Mexico flagged by the U.S. Department of State, we have decided to pause this visit at this time,” Cockfield said.
Adams had been invited to visit the area of Sister Norma Pimentel, the executive director of the Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley in San Juan.
The news comes as New York is at breaking point as tens of thousands of illegal aliens flood the city, causing basic services and hotels to be used up at the expense of its residents.
The trip would have marked Adams’s second visit to the border after he visited the Mexican city of Puebla last year.
There, he delivered a confusing message of “Mi casa es su casa” while telling them New York was unable to accept more migrants.
“We are neighbors. We are familia. Mi casa es su casa. Your struggles are my struggles,” Adams said.
“There is no more room in New York. Our hearts are endless, but our resources are not.”
“We don’t want to put people in congregate shelters. We don’t want people to think they will be employed.”
However, Adams still hasn’t demanded that Joe Biden fully secure the border; instead, he has called on other cities to share the burden of migrants.
“We’ve spent over $4 billion thus far, the federal government has only allocated a little over $100 million… that is no way nowhere near what they should be providing,” Hizzoner railed on Reset Talk Show Friday morning.
Since Joe Biden took office in 2021, over 10 million migrants have entered the U.S. illegally.
Meanwhile, thousands continue to arrive on a daily basis.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott transported many migrants to so-called “sanctuary cities” such as New York, Chicago, and Denver after refusing to see his state foot the bill for Biden’s open border policies.
Since 2022, New York has accepted almost 185,000 asylum seekers, costing taxpayers billions to house, clothe and feed them.
More than 64,500 migrants remain in the city’s care.
