On his first day back in office, President Donald Trump wasted no time delivering on his promises.

He has revoked the security clearances of 51 individuals linked to the Hunter Biden laptop cover-up.

Among the notable names that have lost their clearances are former CIA heads John Brennan and Michael Morell and Trump’s former national security advisor John Bolton.

Here’s what’s happening:

President Trump has also initiated a comprehensive investigation into the actions of these former officials.

The Wall Street Journal reports:

“President Trump Monday signed an executive order revoking the security clearances of 50 former U.S. officials, including former heads of the Central Intelligence Agency John Brennan and Michael Morell and his own former national security advisor, John Bolton. The move targets the signatories of a letter sent during the 2020 presidential campaign stating that emails from Hunter Biden’s laptop appeared likely to be part of a Russian election influence operation, an episode that for years prompted sharp criticism from Trump and congressional Republicans who alleged it was evidence intelligence officials were seeking to help Joe Biden’s election.

Many of the 51 former intelligence officials who signed that letter are retired and don’t hold active clearances; two have since died. Bolton didn’t sign onto the letter but authored a book highly critical of his former boss after he was fired from the White House. No evidence ever emerged to support the claim that Russia engineered the laptop story.”

Bloomberg adds:

“President Donald Trump revoked the security clearances of 50 former US intelligence officials who had cast doubt on conservative attacks on former President Joe Biden’s son, delivering on a campaign promise to exact retribution against what he sees as a ‘deep state’ conspiracy against him.

The former intelligence officials signed on to a letter in the final days of the 2020 presidential election saying the distribution of emails obtained from an abandoned laptop belonging to Hunter Biden ‘has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.’

The emails, which purported to show a corruption scheme by members of Biden’s family involving ties to Ukrainian and Chinese businesses, were published by a conservative tabloid and helped to spur a criminal investigation into the former president’s son. Biden granted him a blanket pardon in December.”

What’s Next?

This decisive move makes it clear that President Trump is determined to hold those he believes conspired against him accountable.

While some of these former officials no longer hold active clearances, the action is symbolic of Trump’s broader effort to confront the so-called Deep State.

One thing is certain: this is only the beginning of what could be a seismic shift in Washington.
